TIRANA, May 26 /ATA/ – The head of Albania’s Muslim Community, Bujar Spahiu, called for greater understanding, dialogue and unity among people in a message marking Eid al-Adha, one of Islam’s most important religious holidays.

In his address, Spahiu said the holiday carried messages of peace, solidarity and compassion, while reminding believers of the values of sacrifice, devotion to God and care for others, particularly families, the elderly and people in need.

“Eid al-Adha is a celebration of sacrifice, obedience to God, solidarity and love for humanity,” Spahiu said. “Its message remains a powerful call to strengthen morality, responsibility and humanism in our daily lives.”

Spahiu noted that thousands of pilgrims from around the world were gathering in the holy city of Mecca to perform the Hajj pilgrimage, which he described as a symbol of unity, equality and devotion to God.

“Believers of different languages, cultures and nations come together in shared worship, demonstrating that our faith is built on peace, respect and universal human values,” he said.

He urged Albanians to show greater care for one another and support vulnerable groups, including the elderly, orphans and people facing hardship.

“Sacrifice is not merely a religious ritual. It is an act of solidarity, sharing and caring for others,” Spahiu said.

He added that the message of Eid al-Adha carried particular importance at a time when the world was facing conflicts, insecurity and social challenges.

“We need more understanding, dialogue, respect and unity among people more than ever before,” he said. “Our society needs more love, more justice and more hope.”

Spahiu also praised Albania’s tradition of interfaith harmony and mutual respect among religious communities, describing it as a valuable asset that should be preserved and strengthened.

“Such celebrations remind us that faith should always serve as a source of peace, civic responsibility and commitment to the common good,” he said.

Eid al-Adha prayers in Tirana are scheduled to take place on Wednesday along the Martyrs of the Nation Boulevard.

TIRANA, July 9 /ATA/ On Saturday morning, thousands of Muslim believers packed the “Scanderbeg” square and all the country’s squares and mosques to perform the Eid al-Adha prayers.

The Eid al- Adhah program in the capital began in the early hours with the morning prayer, and then continued with the singing of a part from the Holy Quran by Hafiz Enes Hyka.

The ceremony continued with the greeting speech of the head of the Muslim Community of Albania, Bujar Spahiu, who shared many messages of greetings and solidarity.

“Eid al-Adha, the festival of sacrifice, symbolizes the love and devotion of the devout man to God of the universe,” Spahiu said.

In the Quran, God says: “It is neither their meat nor their blood that reaches Allah, but it is piety from you that reaches Him. “This Quranic verse reflects the essence and meaning of this day.

“Soften towards each other! Get rid of vices. Save yourself from evils and injustices! Do not be greedy towards one another! This world will not be left to anyone! The family is the basic unit of society,” these were some of the messages that the head of Muslim Community shared with believers.

This day is the day that reminds us to be humane and fair to ourselves and others. This is the day to understand that human value and dignity are very precious and should be given high attention,” he said.
