TIRANA, April 27 /ATA/ Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Frida Krifca, has participated in the completion of the works on a dairy farm in Mazhë e Madhe, Bubq, Kruja, built back after the earthquake.

The Rushi family has benefited financing that has enabled them to work uninterruptedly in their economic activity.

The Dutch and British governments have offered 500,000 euros at a donors’ conference for the post-earthquake reconstruction of small farms in a project implemented by FAO.

Minister Krifca was accompanied by the British Ambassador to Albania, Alastair King-Smith, the Dutch Ambassador, Reinout Vos, the UN Coordinator in Albania, Fiona McCluney and project implementers.

“Through a partnership between the Ministry of Agriculture and international partners, we reconstructed the cattle stable, which was completely damaged and now houses 180 heads of ruminants that will provide income to this family,” said Krifca.

During her last meeting with the British Minister of Agriculture, Victoria Prestis, Krifca received the assurance that the United Kingdom will continue to support development of agriculture in Albania.

The British ambassador said that “reconstruction brings back hope and that is why the United Kingdom has contributed and will continue to contribute in the field of agriculture and rural development for years to come.”

“I am here to see first-hand how the UN, with the support of Great Britain and other partners, is providing assistance to help farmers recover from the earthquake.”

The United Kingdom has provided 1 million £ in financial assistance to Albania in the aftermath of the 2019 earthquake. Funds will also be used to rebuild schools; to help about 200 families and 200 businesses affected bounce back, as well as to help increase the social and economic sustainability of earthquake-affected communities in six municipalities in the country.

While the Dutch ambassador expressed his satisfaction that the international community is working together with FAO to help rebuild what was destroyed by the earthquake in Albania and suggested building an agritourism in that beautiful place.

United Nations Coordinator McCluney also expressed satisfaction with the cooperation between the nations to come to the aid of Albania for an important cause such as reconstruction.

“Clearly this farm is very important for these people and I want to congratulate these women who stand behind all this work,” she said, referring to the two farmers of the Rushi family.
