TIRANA, March 23/ATA/ Prime Minister Edi Rama stated today during a meeting with representatives of the tour operators and mayors of coastal municipalities in Vlora that the government is aiming to formalize the tourism sector because there is a deceit practice in declaration of the overnight stays during the tourist season.

“10 million and 155 thousand tourists visited Albania in 2023, but there were declared only three million and 900 thousand overnight stays”, said Rama.

Further on, he stated that, “We have discussed the matter with foreign expertise and during the current year we will give you the opportunity to make a pre-declaration. Thus, May 1-September 30 there will be introduced the 65% capacity on which every hotel will have to pay the tax to the municipality. While, from October 1 to April 1, there will be applied the 20% capacity level. Again, there is room for extra profit”.

“And we have also given an opportunity to emerge from this phase of informality, i.e. a reduced VAT of 6%, like no other country in the Mediterranean and expect you declare fairly the overnight stays”, Rama said.

The prime minister also took the opportunity to warn that in 2026, the government will introduce the e-Visitors digital platform, a means of having no deviations regarding hotel structures”, said Rama.

PM Rama highlighted the model of Lezha municipality under Mayor Pjerin Ndreu. There is a good management of public beaches and hotel structures.

“We have built a new plan with a much clearer division and a much more reasonable balance between beaches managed by the private sector and public beaches that will be managed by municipalities”, Rama affirmed. /p.s./
