PRISHTINA, September 23/ATA/ Former British diplomat John Stewart Duncan stated today at the trial of the former KLA leaders at The Hague that he had no evidence that the KLA had a practice of ethnic cleansing of the Serbs who remained there. Further on, he also said that he had no evidence that Hashim Thaçi had directed or committed acts of violence against civilians.

Duncan, who during the 1990s was a political advisor to Wesley Clark, the then NATO commander, said that there was no organized army in Kosovo.

“In Kosovo there was no organized army, but a military wing of the self-proclaimed government and we dismantled that. By doing that successfully, we convinced them to do what we wanted, which was disarmament,” he said.

Responding to questions from Judge Bratthe, the witness said that the situation after June 21 in Kosovo was not one of fighting but rather “civilian unrest that was emerging.”

“Serbia had a complete state architecture, while in the case of the interim government of Kosovo they had no support infrastructure, neither legally nor practically”, he said. /p.s./

PRISHTINA, September 22/ATA/ Former British diplomat John Stewart Duncan has given his evidence in defense of former president of Kosovo Hashim Thaçi and the former leaders of Kosovo Liberation Army at The Hague and on Tuesday he will answer to question of the prosecutor.

“I don’t remember ever seeing any communiqué, mentioning executions or liquidations of collaborators or traitors to the nation,” said the former British diplomat.

Former British diplomat John Stewart Duncan, who served as a political advisor to Wesley Clark, the then-NATO commander, in the 1990s, spoke at the start of his testimony before Kosovo Specialist Chambers in The Hague about his role in Kosovo. He said his job was to brief Clark – the general who led the bombing campaign against Serbian targets in 1999.

His testimony comes after former US Assistant Secretary of State James Rubin and former legal advisor to Kosovo’s delegation at the Rambouillet negotiations Paul Williams were heard at the Kosovo Specialist Chambers in The Hague.

Hashim Thaçi, Kadri Veseli, Jakup Krasniqi and Rexhep Selimi are accused of alleged war crimes. They have been in custody since November 2020. /p.s./
