“Exploration of the Dumre oilfield has begun in Albania, where another global energy leader in exploitation of the underground natural resources, Italian company ENI is operating. Optimistic and encouraging data have been established there too, yet work is still on an initial stage, as the company launched its operation prior to the pandemic that actually blocked the process,” PM Rama told a joint press conference with the Deputy Prime Minister Belinda Balluku to announce the oil discovery by company SHELL in Shpirag.

The government head voiced confidence that Dumre will be a new massive investment and funding source for the Albanian national economy.

“I very much hope that the impact of this new untapped area of the country’s economic potential will be extraordinary. Various scenarios are available currently, because nothing is predictable to date, but even if we consider the most conservative scenario, the benefit will be significant. It will certainly be a massive investment and funding source for the body of the Albanian economy,” PM Rama said in his remarks.

Rama commented on the exploration of the country’s natural resources over the years, pledging that the contracts on oil exploration in this area of the country meet the highest international standards.
