TIRANA, Nov 22 /ATA/ The chief prosecutor of the Special Prosecution Against Organized Crime and Corruption, Altin Dumani, stated on Friday that SPAK has so far seized assets worth 150 million euros acquired through corruption and crime.

Dumani said in a televised interview that, “SPAK’s three priorities are: Combating organized crime, corruption, and terrorism. At the moment, we are focused on the fight against corruption and organized crime. So far, SPAK has proven that it is capable of prosecuting any individual, regardless of their position, no matter how high they were or are. We are doing this based on evidence, day by day.”

.

“We have conducted investigations at various high and mid-level positions, as well as various officials at both local and central levels. Regarding organized crime, which was previously beyond reach to investigate, we have a track record of 150 million euros worth of assets seized, which is a significant amount. SPAK has dealt a serious blow to the culture of impunity,” said Dumani.

While speaking about the work of SPAK, Dumani stated, “In December, SPAK will mark 5 years since its establishment. We started on December 19, 2019, with only 18 prosecutors. We didn’t have administrative staff, we didn’t even have a building, and tools to use for investigations. On the other hand, we had a large flow of criminal cases to handle. We inherited a relatively large number of files from the Prosecutor’s Office of Serious Crimes. The general jurisdiction prosecutors declared incompetence and in consequence referred many files to the Special Prosecutor’s Office. We had to cope with many difficulties, but the situation is different today.”

Dumani stated, “SPAK has pursued criminal prosecution against high-ranking officials, mid-level officials, low-level officials, former judges, former prosecutors, mayors, former mayors, members of the Albanian Parliament, and high-ranking police officers.”
