Prime Minister Edi Rama shared on social media images from the work to clean up the drainage canals in the village of Verbas, in Patos.

Rama said that “the work is well underway to provide the best possible drainage system for 110 hectares of agricultural land, a preventive measure to protect farmers’ crops from rainfall.”

Across the entire territory of the country, measures have been taken to mitigate the risk of rainfall for agricultural lands, by de-clogging and cleaning up drainage canals.

The rehabilitation of canals has a direct impact on soil productivity, but also on their rapid drainage after rainfall, regardless of the intensity.

Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Milva Ekonomi, shared some images from the work on the ground to clean up the drainage canals in the area of Kuçova.

“In the area of Kucova, the work is underway to clean up 4.1 km long drainage canal, which serves for the drainage of more than 1000 ha of agricultural land in the villages of Kozara, Shalc and Havale,” said Ekonomi.

Agricultural development and investments in support of farmers are a priority of the policies launched by the government.

Improving land quality is important for a developed agriculture, and therefore MoARD is continuously engaged on rehabilitation of drainage canals. /j.p/sm/
