Prime Minister Edi Rama shared Sunday on social media images of the ongoing work to rehabilitate the main drainage channel in Patos of Fier.

Rama said that the investment serves to drain about 2,500 hectares of agricultural land in the area, helping farmers to grow crops.

“Work continues apace for the rehabilitation of the K-13 channel, the main drainage channel in Patos, which serves about 2,500 hectares of agricultural land in the area, helping farmers to grow their crops,” Rama writes in the caption below, as the video shows the fields tilled and planted with the seasonal agricultural crops.

Investments in this sector ensure irrigation of their crops during the summer season, but also prevent flooding of agricultural lands due to rainfall.

The rehabilitation of irrigation and drainage canals in the villages of the municipality of Fier has increased the productivity of agricultural lands. With the new territorial division about 50% of the entire territory of the municipality of Fier is a rural area, almost entirely agricultural and with very fertile land.
