TIRANA, April 1 /ATA/ The mass vaccination of the elderly +70 years old continued today on the 5th day at “Skënderbej” square in central Tirana.

The Albanian Telegraphic Agency closely followed today this process where the elderly continue to be numerous in number and this is best shown by the daily figures of vaccinations which currently exceed the number of 2000 people. This figure is almost double what it was on the first day of mass vaccination.

Doctor Arjela Malaj made an overview of this very important and at the same time delicate process.

“Our work starts at 8 o’clock in the morning, when we prepare and start the vaccines that come to us from the Institute of Public Health; we prepare the tables and at 9 o’clock we start the process of registration of citizens. As for the completion time, we cannot give you a fixed schedule, as we proceed until the last citizen in line receives the jab. We cannot turn back any of the grandparents who show up to receive the service”, said Malaj for ATA.

Vaccines that are serving to immunize the population have a special protocol and way of how they should be stored, so that they can then be functional. This method is precisely defined by the WHO and the relevant manufacturer.

In this regard, the doctor explained that, “Everything is determined by the WHO and the manufacturer, regardless of whether you see the vaccines on the table. They stay in the thermo-box and are in condition and standard until the moment the dose is opened. By keeping them in thermo-boxes and on ice they absolutely do not lose their properties. They open only at the moment of use.

“As we see, there are eight tents with four tables and for each table we have the doctor, the nurse and the vaccinator, the one who also does the injection. Several institutions are engaged in this process, such as the army that performs vaccinations, the doctors of the health care service in Tirana, and the coordinators from the State Social Service, staff who are all in the service of this vaccination campaign. The Municipal Police is another institution that is certainly making a great contribution by organizing the ranks of citizens, orienting the security distance. It has greatly influenced the progress of this procedure as soon as possible, avoiding the creation of queues and other problems “, said the doctor for ATA.

She stated that, “The daily number of staff engaged in this process is about 60, while only one post can approximate up to 180 injections per day and in total all posts reach to perform over 2500 injections and this has increased from 1600 which were carried out in the early days. The population is aware. In addition to family doctors, we have already opened the e-Albania system where the reservation application is made. Also the individual contacts directly by phone through the family doctor is still going on, sending us the exact number of citizens so that we can withdraw the exact number of vaccines to keep them in the necessary conditions as required also by the protocol”.

“These days the first injection of the vaccine is being applied and then we plan the second dose which is the one that creates even more antibodies in the citizens. After the vaccination process, we keep the citizens under surveillance for another 20 minutes to avoid possible complications in the form of allergies. We also have the National Emergency that is on standby in case of complications, although so far, we have not had any complications here, but even when they are at home. We did this by contacting them even after they leave and go to their homes. This is a process that will last until the last citizen is vaccinated. We will not leave any citizen unvaccinated “, concluded doctor Malaj. /a.a/r.e/p.s./
