TIRANA, Oct 18 /ATA/ The Democratic Party asks the Special Prosecutor’s Office Against Corruption and Organized Crime to follow through with investigations into suspicious tenders to make sure that officials and politicians will not get away with corruption any more.

In a media statement from the DP headquarters, the spokesperson of the Democratic Party Mirela Karabina and the engineer Azmer Dulevič said that the DP asks for the approval of a legal package against government crime and corruption which contains measures to seize assets derived from these affairs.

“Open Data Albania has published the ranking of 100 tenders with high values of the winning bid which were awarded a contract in 2022. Eight of the ten high value contracts are rated as “red flag” for suspicious procedure. Among the high value tenders with procedural irregularities where ARA dominates as the procuring authority, the winner was declared either the operator with the highest bid disqualifying all others with lower bids, or the competition was organized with one participant, or a limited procedure above the high monetary threshold reflecting a lack of competition,” Karabina said.

According to her, “the Democratic Party in its battle against corruption is building a comprehensive alliance with all social factors, for a political and economic system. It is necessary to adopt an aggressive legal package against government crime and corruption, both for the punishment of corruption and for the sequestration of assets obtained due to these affairs”.
“The Democratic Party encourages and unreservedly supports the Special Prosecutor’s Office in its mission to investigate and punish the corrupt officials and politicians who are impoverishing Albania.
