TIRANA, April 8 /ATA/ – The Democratic Party’s (DP) leadership approved a resolution on Sunday, assuring the public opinion and the international partners of the main opposition party’s commitment to collaborative efforts in building a robust rule of law and functional democracy by strongly supporting the new justice bodies in Albania.

In a press statement on Monday, DP said it convened to deliberate upon the recent political and institutional landscape of the country. In response to these developments, the party’s leadership issued a comprehensive resolution outlining its position and commitments.

DP said that the judicial reform is yielding results and “this is the reason why the ruling Socialist Party and a group of opposition MPs have joined votes to discourage the new justice bodies.”

DP resolution notes the promising efforts made in judicial reform, emphasizing the tangible progress in combating corruption, organized crime, and impunity. Acknowledging the pivotal role of institutions such as the Special Anticorruption and Anticrime Prosecution Structure (SPAK) and the Special Courts, DP underscored their widespread public support and trust.

However, the main opposition party expressed concern over attempts by certain political factions, including the Socialist Party and elect opposition lawmakers, to undermine these achievements, saying that parliamentary actions lacked transparency and aimed at impeding the effectiveness of new justice bodies and fostering a hostile political climate.

DP advocated for an electoral system that fosters open competition, equal voting rights, and inclusivity, including proposals for open lists, a unified electoral zone, diaspora voting facilitation, and electronic voting and counting.

TIRANA, Oct 12 /ATA/-By Maela Marini/ – Prime Minister Edi Rama said in his remarks at parliament session on Thursday that a draft resolution on Kosovo forwarded by the main opposition Democratic Party was a propaganda attempt to make political capital out of the situation.

Addressing parliament session on a motion put forward for debate by the DP lawmaker Kreshnik Çollaku on Albania’s position regarding the most recent events in northern Kosovo, PM Rama said that “the draft resolution filed by the Democratic Party with the Assembly of Albania popped up from the very same seemingly patriotic chimney, immediately after the Kosovo Assembly resolution on the tragic killing of a police officer by a Serbian criminal gang that committed terrorism in the north of the Republic of Kosovo.”

The government head stated that it is the duty of the Kosovo Assembly to adopt such a worded resolution.

“The Assembly of Kosovo called for political and institutional support from the allied powers and international bodies that Kosovo has yet to join in. To whom the DP-sponsored resolution can direct to, given that Albania is a NATO member state, a candidate country negotiating its EU membership, a country holding a seat at the United Nations Security Council and all the institutional communication with the democratic world, and its embassies to all international bodies? Which NATO or EU member states would adopt such resolutions directed to the world and the organizations in the Euro-Atlantic community?” Rama said.

“What’s the goal of such initiative except for a seemingly patriotic propaganda for local political gain? Such proposed resolutions appear all of a sudden to be used for the purpose of most detestable political rhetoric by commenting on the Milosevic’s victims in Kosovo and Bosnia and Herzegovina in order to fight the government in parliament in 21st century,” Rama added.

TIRANA, May 6 /ATA/ – In response to a resolution adopted by the Democratic Party’s National Council rejecting election of Albania’s next President by the parliamentary majority only, the State Minister for Relations with Parliament Elisa Spiropali stated Friday that the ruling Socialist Party will not recognize any decisions made by any political body that stems from an anti-American sentiment of an individual on the black list of the United States of America.

According to Spiropali, “Socialist Party parliamentary group is not going to establish any contacts or communications with that source of evilness for Albania.”

“If it is true that Sali (former Prime Minister Sali Berisha) has convened a party council to impose a condition that they would accept to negotiate for the next President should their candidate is endorsed only, then I have to extend my condolences to the Council members in question, reminding them at the same time of the fact that the Socialist parliamentary group recognizes no decisions made by any political body that stems from an anti-American sentiment of an individual on the black list of the United States of America and is not going to establish any contacts or communications with that source of evilness for Albania,” Spiropali said.
