TIRANA, June 5 /ATA/ The chairman of the Democratic Party, Sali Berisha, stated on Friday that the opposition supports citizens’ right to protest, noting that the demonstration taking place over recent days in front of the Prime Minister’s Office is not organised by the Democratic Party.

Responding to a question during a press conference regarding the Democratic Party’s position on the civic protest, Berisha said that the party fully respects citizens’ right to organise and to express their dissatisfaction through peaceful protest.

Berisha said that the Democratic Party has made no calls for participation or organisational support.

Berisha said the Democratic Party fully supports citizens’ right to protest, noting that the ongoing demonstration was not organised or endorsed by the party, which nonetheless respects it.

He said the Democratic Party fully respects the protest and citizens’ right to demonstrate on issues they deem important.

Berisha added that the party maintains its own political agenda and organizes its own protests, which are open to any citizens wishing to take part.

“We cannot take responsibility for any step that could give rise to any kind of controversy,” said the leader of the Democratic Party.

“The Democratic Party has its own protest agenda, and when it calls a protest, it is open to all citizens who wish to participate. In this context, as I said again, we fully respect the protest,” Berisha said.
