Presenting the opposition coalition’s candidates in the municipality of Kavaje, Berisha claimed that his party’s program was “for every Albanian citizen, and not just an electoral program of a political party.”

“It is the program of a true mission to lift Albania out of this spiral, out of these labyrinths that are increasingly destroying it,” Berisha told opposition supporters at a campaign rally that saw also participation of the Vice-Chairman of the International Democratic Union (IDU), Elmar Brok.

Berisha expressed gratitude to Brok for supporting Albania’s DP and Albanian democracy at critical moments.

TIRANA, April 12 /ATA/ – Democratic Party (DP) leader Sali Berisha stated that the main opposition’s alternative offers a transformative project to give Albania a new chance and incredible opportunity.

Presenting the 2025-2029 electoral program during DP’s National Assembly meeting at the Palace of Congresses on Saturday, the opposition leader offers an incredible opportunity, saying it is the best plan for the country in the last 34 years.

According to him, the opposition’s electoral program is not just an alternative, but also a major and transformative project for the country and for the Albanian citizens.

Berisha accused Prime Minister Edi Rama, also leader of the ruling Socialist Party, of electoral program plagiarism, saying the DP program was the outcome of three years of hard work to develop “great Albania project.”

The opposition leader claimed that he was not seeking to seize power in order to accumulate wealth or luxury, saying he has never been interested in either of them even when he was young, but he had returned to the political battle to restore his dignity.

“With the past accomplishments, namely political pluralism under Berisha’s first government, NATO membership under Berisha’s second term in office, I was seeking something so that this time Berisha surpasses the first and second several times. And this something should provide answers to the overwhelming problems of the Albanians. That is why we did this project, knowing Albania’s dangerous situation,” Berisha said.

He said that a team of best local and international experts, including two conservative foundations – Konrad Adenauer dhe Heritage Foundation – have worked and contributed to the opposition’s electoral program.

TIRANA, April 1 /ATA/ – Democratic Party leader Sali Berisha pledged Tuesday to provide compensation to businesses and exporters for the losses they have suffered due to the depreciation of the euro in Albania’s domestic market, if his main opposition party seizes power after May 11 parliamentary election.

The opposition leader visited an apparel manufacturing factory in the coastal city of Durres to unveil the DP governing program, promising sweeping tax cuts and economic reforms.

Berisha said that DP’s “Made in Albania” program focuses on all efforts to support domestic production, vowing utmost support to ensure success of Albanian entrepreneurs.

“We should ease fiscal burden and protect exports,” Berisha said, pledging to provide full compensation for the losses because of the depreciation of the European single currency.

According to him, the euro depreciation by 35% in the domestic market has had destructive effects on Albanian businesses and exporters, promising to create a board to stabilize the euro-to-lek exchange rate immediately after coming to power.

“In this context, a special board will be founded to monitor the exchange rate fluctuations and compensate every entrepreneur, until the law scissors cut the cocaine routes and proceedings that Albanian economy doesn’t need,” Berisha added.

He also vowed to cut the electricity price to only six lek, saying Albanian businesses will pay the lowest electricity rate in Europe.

Berisha also announced plans to approve a stable fiscal code within the first three months of governance, guaranteeing no tax increases for four years, with key proposals including a 10% flat tax rate on capital and income (excluding the first 50,000 Lek), a reduction in VAT to 15%, a decrease in the infrastructure tax to 2%, and the abolition of a social housing tax.

The opposition leader highlighted a series of infrastructure project, including Milot-Lezhë-Shkodër highway and expansion of Tirana-Durres highway.

TIRANA, Feb 15 /ATA/ – The Democratic Party leader Sali Berisha has vowed to take a series of measures to urgently tackle the judicial bribery, combat corruption and put an end to misappropriation of public funds in procurement and contracting processes.

Unveiling the main opposition party’s program during an online press conference, Berisha also pledged to set a minimum living wage, increase the unemployment and social assistance payment in the first three months of a centre-right government, if DP was to win the May 11 parliamentary elections in Albania.

Berisha also stated that a DP government will prioritize providing compensation to former politically persecuted people, property restitution and compensation, building quality education and health care systems.

“The national revenue system and the state budget will be overhauled to ensure fair distribution of revenue to citizens. We will set the minimum living wage, the minimum wage and unemployment payment, social and economic assistance in the first three months. Compensation to the former politically persecuted people, property restitution and compensation, and building quality education and health systems will be our absolute priorities,” Berisha said.

The opposition leader highlighted that backlog of cases in Albanian courts keep increasing.

“The backlog of cases in courts is increasing with 150 000 cases currently from 136 000 cases three years ago. This is one of the most serious problems in history of the Albanian state. An Albanian citizen will have to wait 15 years for a civil court case or he or she would have to pay hefty bribes for their case to be reviewed earlier. Judicial bribery is three times higher than previously,” Berisha stated, saying that he would cooperate with the Venice Commission to address the issue, if elected.

He also pledged that a DP government would revisit the retirement age in Albania, claiming that the Socialist government increased the age to 67 years.

“Edi Rama gives lectures to the European Union member states that count thousands of Albanian citizens who seek asylum after being deprived of economic activities in their own homeland,” Basha said.

“It is now the time to put an end to the propaganda. It is time to put an end to the corruption with the assets of the Albanian citizens and provide them opportunities to lead a decent life in their homeland,” Basha stated, adding that it is time to turn into reality the long-awaited change through DP program.

TIRANA, Feb 11 /ATA/ – The Democratic Party chairman Lulzim Basha told his supporters in the municipality of Dimal on Sunday that the main opposition party will soon reveal its new citizen-centred program and that the Democrats are optimistic about the future.

Basha said that his party’s program will be a propagandistic one and is designed to push forward Albania’s European Union integration process and provide welfare for Albanian citizens.

“And this is an irreversible path we have embarked together towards the European Albania. This process has been delayed, but it is unstoppable. Albania’s European path goes through certain basic principles, primarily reaching welfare level of the European societies where unfortunately Albanian young people are heading to by abandoning their families. To deliver, we need to meet the most important standard on equality before the law,” Basha said.

He added that supporting justice and the Special Prosecution Against Corruption and Organized Crime office (SPAK) was now DP’s political obligation.

“There could be no democratic society without equality before the law. The end of impunity is the beginning of European Albania. This is the reason why supporting new justice reform and SPAK is essential to its vision. Albanians’ expectations from SPAK are absolutely high and we should support SPAK unconditionally,” Basha stated.
