TIRANA, Jan  17 /ATA/ The chairman of the DP parliamentary group, Enkelejd Alibeaj, withdrew the appeal for combining the 2 statutes of the July 17 and December 18 assemblies and asked the Court of Appeal to drop this case.

The legal representative, Indrit Sefa, told a media briefing on Tuesday prior to the court session at the Court of Appeal that they have withdrawn the appeal in order to pave the way for the adjudication of the decision handed down by Judge Agron Zhukri, who in March 2022 recognized the statutory changes of the Assembly of the Reestablishment group held on December 11.

Judge Zhukri’s decision legitimized the Re-establishment Commission and the  December 11 Assembly called by former Prime Minister Sali Berisha for the change of the statute, logo and dismissal of the entire leadership structure of the party, starting with the chairman Lulzim Basha.

Sefa also asked the Court of Appeal to deliver a decision before the May 14 local elections.

“Today’s adjudication, for which we request the dismissal of the case, determines whether the July 2021 Assembly will be registered or not in the registry of political parties of the Court of Tirana. Just because the statute approved by the  July 2021 Assembly is the act on which the meeting of the so-called December 11, 2021 Assembly was based, adjudication of this case gets in the way of adjudicating the case on the legitimacy of the December 11 Assembly and the legitimacy of the governing bodies of the Democratic Party”, he said.
