TIRANA, Oct  25 /ATA/ The chairman of the DP parliamentary group, Enkelejd Alibeaj, on Tuesday held a meeting with intellectuals on the Law on Dossiers, whom he briefed about the amendments brought forth by the DP.

According to him, “every citizen has the right to request information, if he signs that he will not misuse it.”

“The adoption  of the law for declassification of files has been pending in Albanian politics. The DP parliamentary group in June 2021 started a review of amendments that would allow for the opening of dossiers. The amendments filed in the Assembly in July contain 2 essential elements. The first amendment points out that that files should no  longer be secret, locked away in dark basements. The concept of declassification. We made an addition to complete it with a 2nd amendment, that under the law anyone is entitled to access information after submitting a request to the Dossiers Authority,” he said.

Alibeaj said that the truth contained in the state security dossiers should not be served in a processed format by one hand, be it from the Dossiers Authority.

Alibeaj emphasized that the declassification of the dossiers is intended to inform the Albanian public. “We brought forward that amendment as a moral obligation towards the Albanian society. It turned out that this amendment met with support from the SP. Yes, we managed to open the dossiers of the State Security,” he said. /m.m/j.p/r.e/sm/
