TIRANA, September 10 /ATA/ Four court administrations walked out today over unpaid August salaries.
The employees and judicial secretaries of the Civil and Criminal Chambers of the Court of Tirana are not providing services until they receive their salaries.
Also, according to the media, work has been boycotted in the courts of Vlora, Fier and Lushnja.
Meanwhile, today the judges will urgently meet at the Supreme Court of Justice to discuss the situation.
The impasse began after the Parliament did not approve the new formula for magistrates’ salaries within the July 31 deadline, as determined by the Constitutional Court.
The High Judicial Council and the High Prosecution Council decided to abide by the decision of the Constitutional Court by increasing the reference salary of magistrates. They argued that the Constitutional Court’s decision was binding and determined the increase with a reference base salary of 222 thousand lek and 14 thousand lek for the qualification supplement.
Minister of Justice Toni Gogu has emphasized that the created situation must be finally resolved by filling the legal gap in the Assembly with the start of the new parliamentary session.
Gogu has explained that the created problem is related to the lack of a legal basis for the magistrates’ salary formula after the Constitutional Court’s decision. /m.q/a.f/p.s./
