TIRANA, March 23 /ATA/ The implementation of the major project for rehabilitation and expansion of the Infectious Diseases Hospital capacities has started on Wednesday at the University Hospital Center “Mother Teresa.”

Minister of Health and Social Protection, Ogerta Manastirliu, who inspected the kickoff of the works, announced that the reconstruction of the Infectious Diseases Hospital will modernize the service according to the best standards for the treatment of inpatients, turning this hospital into a reference center for treatment of infectious diseases.

“The investment in the Infectious Diseases Hospital is part of our plan to respond to the COVID-19 pandemic and its impact, but also to respond to other emergencies, with view to transforming the Infectious Diseases Hospital into a center of reference for infectious diseases. The Albanian govt. has committed 5.6 million euros for this investment, including all the necessary equipment and systems that a modern hospital should have, ” said Manastirliu.

Appreciating the role of doctors in management of the pandemic during this time like no other, Minister of Health outlined the government’s objective to increase hospital capacities in response to health crises.

“You have been under a lot of strain in these two years. Thanks to you, thanks to the timely preparations, thanks to the investments that have been made, we have managed to provide timely service to every citizen and improve access to health care. We have the full will to invest in the present and to respond to any situation that may arise tomorrow or in the coming years, by strengthening our health capacities, ” said Manastirliu.

Minister of Health said that all measures have been taken to guarantee provision of services for patients with COVID-19.

The project includes negative pressure rooms to prevent the circulation of infectious diseases to adjacent rooms and communal settings, doubling of resuscitation capacities, and an increase in capacities of emergency unit as well. Other than state of the art technology, it will be invested in monitoring network of the entire activity of the hospital, in development of data collection and management system. The new hospital will also have an auditorium and lecture hall for students of Medicine.
