TIRANA, Sept 8 /ATA/ Prime Minister Edi Rama today urged ambassadors to actively identify and comprehensively register Albanian communities around the world.

In his remarks at the three-day conference of Albanian ambassadors worldwide, Rama emphasized that it is unacceptable for a small country like ours not to have an up-to-date registry of Albanians excelling in their professions abroad.

Rama stressed that the participation of Albanians living abroad in elections not only amplifies their influence in the country’s decision-making but also reinforces our responsibility to support and engage with them.

“There are some isolated successes and positive signs regarding this development, but overall, we lag behind, and the results are unsatisfactory.”

“We are a small country and a small –sized nation that cannot afford to be unaware of our human resources abroad. We cannot afford to be oblivious to the contribution of educated Albanians and outstanding professionals we have in almost every country around the world,” Rama said.

At the very least, the Prime Minister added, “It is the responsibility of the diplomatic service to guarantee that we are aware of their presence and existence. With this awareness, many other opportunities can be imagined and developed.”
Prime Minister Rama announced that a new legal framework will soon be approved to enhance the effectiveness and support of Albania’s diplomatic missions, while also raising the bar for their performance.
