PRISTINA, Feb 23 /ATA/ – Kosovo President Vjosa Osmani stated Friday that the issue of central bank regulation on banning the Serbian dinar in the country’s payment systems could be solved domestically and that there was no reason to provoke controversy between Pristina and its allies, Radio Free Europe reported on Friday.

“This issue could have been solved domestically in Kosovo. Indeed, the spat with our allies was uncalled for,” Osmani told reporters.

A new central bank regulation entered into force on February 1, stipulating that Euro is the only currency allowed for cash payments in the Kosovo payments system.

The United States has opposed the implementation of the CBK regulation, stating that it was adopted without prior consultation and without taking into account the negative impacts it may have on the Serbian population in Kosovo, which has been using the Serbian dinar since the post-war period.

The issue of banning the Serbian dinar has strained relations between the Government of Kosovo and the United States. Washington has asked the Government of Prime Minister Albin Kurti to postpone the implementation of the regulation. However, Kurti has insisted that this regulation won’t be reversed.

PRISTINA, Feb 19 /ATA/ – Kosovo President Vjosa Osmani stated that the most recent dispute between the government of Kosovo and international partners over the central bank’s regulation on banning the Serbian dinar was just a matter of communication.

Osmani noted that Kosovo has achieved everything through cooperation with the international partners.

She said that Kosovo authorities should overcome the situation by reaching an agreement with international partners on implementation of the central bank’s regulation, saying “there is room for discussions between the government and our international allies to work on this issue.”

President Osmani voiced confidence that a solution will be found soon.

The US ambassador, Jeffery Hovenier stated in a press conference recently that the issue of the dinar had damaged relations with the Government of Kosovo.
