TIRANA, Dec 25 /ATA/ – Albania is increasingly becoming one of the most favourite digital nomad destinations thanks to the country’s business-friendly environment, tax-friendly regime, creation of innovation hubs and digital labs, to name just a few reasons that are constantly attracting attention and interest of the digital nomads.

Sara Çela, a specialist for the free economic zones and the diaspora at the municipality of Tirana, in an interview with the Albanian Telegraphic Agency (ATA), put emphasis on a series of fiscal incentives provided under the Albanian law on the digital nomads.

“Under the new law, the digital nomads are not subject to double taxation. By granting them this fiscal incentive, the idea is that they will invest in Albania, either in the quotas of monthly living expenses, but also in investments or ventures in the field of ‘Start-ups’, hence the laws on ‘Start-ups’ and digital nomads it makes sense to include them in the same platform,” Çela said.

According to her, Albania and Tirana have a great potential to absorb digital nomads and Çela revealed concrete figures.

“Number of remote workers in Albania has trebled since the first edition of the digital nomad festival last year. The figure shows an exponential growth in their number during a year and the potential is tremendous. The digital nomads’ festival is a means to monitor the market, to identify problems and the challenges, as well as a way to strengthen cooperation with other countries in the framework of the festival,” Çela said.

Commenting on Diaspora’s participation in “Tirana Digital Nomad Festival”, Çela noted that a growing number of Albanians living and working abroad are showing interest in investing in this field and work is underway to increase their presence.

She revealed some of the Tirana municipality plans to build as many platforms as possible as meeting points for digital nomads, start-ups and entrepreneurs.

“The technology hub at the Tirana Pyramid has become a platform that brings together young people, but also brings different stakeholders together so that they can build cooperation among one another. Revitalization of such centers, as it was the case with the Pyramid, is part of the long-term plans of the Municipality of Tirana. These should be platforms for young people to get information to get the right expertise and connections to materialize their initiatives,” Çela added.

Jonid Jorgji, the head of the Creative Industries Agency in the Municipality of Tirana, told ATA that hundreds of digital nomads from all over the world will come together in their next Tirana festival to see the Albanian capital as their own home, now providing much better conditions than the ones they used to live and work previously.
