“Recently, Albania has established partnership with the U.S. California-based company Patagonia to protect the Vjosa River in an effort involving the Save the Blue Heart of Europe campaign,” DiCaprio tweeted.

Albania’s Vjosa River is the largest wild river in Europe.

The River and its tributaries run untamed from source to sea, creating a bio-diverse ecosystem that covers over 300km. It is home to 1,100 species of animals, including 13 globally threatened animal and two plant species.

The Vjosa is the crown of the Blue Heart of Europe and people across Albania want to protect it forever.

Most recently Albanian government created Vjosa National Park, the very first wild river park in Europe.

The head of government shared photos taking with Di Caprio on the sidelines of the conference.

“When happens to be a neighbor with Leonardo Di Caprio and share protection of Vjosa River”, said Rama in the social media.

Last year, the well-known American actor Leonardo Di Caprio praised the decision of Prime Minister of Albania Edi Rama and his government to stop construction of hydropower plants on the Vjosa River and turn it into a national park.

Di Caprio joined the initiative to protect the Vjosa River against the construction of hydropower plants about two years ago.

On its way, over 270 km, the Vjosa River has beautiful canyons, fast-flowing streams, islands and amazing windings.

What makes this river truly special internationally is the fact that almost all of its branches flow uninterrupted and untouched, creating a vibrant river network like something not currently encountered in Europe./k.s/j.p/p.s./
