TIRANA, Jan 9 /ATA/Taulant Balla, the Political Leader of the Socialist Party for the Diaspora, addressed several important matters related to the voting process for the diaspora in the May 11 elections, while also elaborating on the Socialist Party’s offer as the only reliable option in the current Albanian political landscape.

In a question-and-answer session on the social media platform Facebook, Balla provided details about the technical aspects, starting with the registration process that begins this Saturday and ends on March 4, to the deadline for postal votes, which is 7:00 PM on May 11.

The Political Leader of the Socialist Party for the Diaspora deliberated on technical details and addressed uncertainties raised by diaspora voters in their questions, responding to them in real-time.

When asked about the potential representation of the diaspora, Balla confirmed that in the “Deputy We Want” initiative, there is a substantial number of candidates from the diaspora, successful Albanians from various parts of the world. “More than 100 candidates have expressed interest in being part of this process,” Balla shared during the discussion.

Will the Albanian government cover the postage cost for returning the voting ballot by mail?

“We have put forward a proposal for the government to cover the return postage costs for the ballots. The Electoral Code requires the CEC to send the ballots from Albania to your address, wherever you live. Some of our fellow citizens have suggested that, since this is the first time, a fund should be set up to cover the return postage. The Prime Minister has expressed the government’s will to cover the costs from its own budget, but Parliament must make the necessary amendments to the electoral code. We hope that the opposition will support this as well,” Balla responded to a question from a citizen living abroad.

Balla provided a detailed explanation of the registration process and technical aspects, offering examples on the CEC website and its mobile app, where the procedure can be completed via the Electronic Registration Platform. “If you have created your account and registered with an expired identification document, you have until March 4th to upload the updated document, as you will not be able to vote on May 11 with an expired document,” he stated.
