TIRANA, Jan 10 /ATA/ The Democratic Party head, Lulzim Basha, during a televised interview on Monday addressed the democrats thanking all those who distanced themselves, when January 8 protest called by former Prime Minister Sali Berisha turned violent.

Basha said that, “the first message is addressed to the Democrats who today feel ashamed of the scenes of violence, barbarism, orchestrated and executed by the sick mind of Sali Berisha who tried to make a reality what he warned, that unless DP turned into a bunker for him, then the DP did not deserve to exist. ”

Basha said, “it is time to stand by each other, to speak truth as it is based on facts. I thank the Democrats for abandoning Berisha whose intent is to shield himself from the US designation. I thank those who were called to serve as a façade for distancing themselves as soon as the protest spiraled out of control. It is not the DP, it is the violence of a man who is in despair, and wants the Albanians to pay for this anguish. The time has come to recover from the January 8 ruins, to become a DP as most Albanians want, a normal party, open to society and the concerns of citizens.”

Basha pointed out that justice reform is taking very small steps forward, so he said, “it is necessary to introduce other instruments, to purge politics and to separate the husk from the grain.”

According to him, “the ‘Bermuda Triangle’ seeks to keep Albania at a standstill. To put it bluntly, Edi Rama, Sali Berisha, Ilir Meta hold Albania hostage. They hold it hostage for their own interests. This is my word against theirs.”

Basha added that Albania needs institutional democracy, constitutional changes which balance the powers, including electoral reform, territorial reform, etc.
