Spiropali will attend the opening of the General Debate, held under the theme: “Better Together: 80 years and more for peace, development and human rights.

At the invitation of UN General Assembly President Annalena Baerbock, she will also participate in the Assembly’s annual Women Leaders’ Platform meeting.

During her visit, Spiropali will represent Albania in several key multilateral and bilateral meetings focused on international security, sustainable development, and human rights.

Albania, building on its active role within UN bodies, will continue to advocate for inclusive multilateral diplomacy as the only path toward lasting solutions to global challenges.

The ship will serve a six-month deployment as part of maritime security operations in the Mediterranean.

In a statement on social media, Vengu praised the role of Albania’s Armed Forces in international missions, noting their “pride and responsibility within the Alliance” and their key role in life-saving operations.

Vengu said he visited the vessel before its departure to extend his best wishes for a successful mission and to commend the professionalism and dedication of the crew, led by Captain Jetnor Balla.

Albanian crews have carried out five successful operations in the Aegean this year alone, rescuing over 120 people. Since the start of the mission, Albanian forces have conducted 29 operations in total, saving more than 700 lives.

Durres Port Authority told Albanian Telegraphic Agency (ATA) on Monday that port handled a total of 60.255 passengers last week, 44,169 of them leaving Albania and 16,086 entering the country.

Port Authority said that a total of 5145 passengers and more than 1300 vehicles left for Italy after Sunday midnight.

According to the Port Authority, a total of 1040 people arrived in Durres on Monday on board of two ferries arriving from Bari and Ancona.

More than 115,000 ferry passengers have travelled to and from Durres port in July alone.

Durres Port Authority has taken all measures to ensure timely handling of passengers and provide more facilities for the visitors.

The number of maritime transport passengers to and from Albania’s largest port of Durres has significantly increased over the past months.

The Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs Olta Xhaçka and the U.S. Ambassador Yuri Kim attended the departure ceremony of the group of 212 Afghan evacuees.

Albania’s diplomacy chief and the U.S. diplomat commended Afghans for their courage.

In her remarks, Foreign Minister Xhaçka recalled the days when Afghan refugees arrived in Albania, noting that “the humanitarian operation brought Albania closer to the U.S. partners and allies.”

“People like Ambassador Yuri Kim, Keith and their collaborators who have worked hard to deliver on this moment. It has been an honor for us to help our partners and I am sure that our alliance and friendship will only be strengthened and has ushered in a new phase,” Xhaçka said.

Ambassador Kim thanked the people of Albania for welcoming Afghans as the first country to open its doors to them last year.

“The Albanian people showed the world once again the tradition of “besa” – protecting others in need,” Ambassador Kim said.
