As part of the ‘School for Health’ project, two mobile dental units in Elbasan provide screening and deliver dental services directly to children.

During a visit to one of the mobile units in Elbasan, Minister of Health and Social Welfare Klodiana Spahiu said that another project is being considered for children, who after the screening of oral health problems would move on to specialised follow‑up care.

Spahiu announced that Elbasan will serve as the pilot project, with the aim of including children with autism spectrum disorders and children with disabilities who attend schools.

“We will take Elbasan as the pilot, across all schools, for children with autism spectrum disorders and those with mild intellectual disabilities or other impairments who attend classes. Dentists will carry out screenings, and afterwards, through you, the children identified will be registered for the services they need, including fillings,” Spahiu said.

The initiative aims to increase access to dental services for children, particularly in areas where schools lack dental clinics, and to enable the timely identification and treatment of dental problems.

In cooperation with the Local Health Care Units, the service will also be extended to children with disabilities, creating a more structured process from screening through to treatment.
