TIRANA, Oct 4 /ATA/ – Authorities in northern Albania have begun demolishing illegal constructions in Theth National Park, aiming to restore the protected area to its natural state, Prime Minister Edi Rama said Saturday.

Rama shared footage of a controlled demolition of one structure, reiterating the government’s determination to fight unlawful construction.

“Whoever builds without a permit is only investing in their own trouble. Theth, again and everywhere, until the end, for Albania 2030 in the European Union,” he said.

The National Territorial Protection Inspectorate (IKMT) resumed demolitions of 13 concrete and wooden structures in the park. Around 100 illegal buildings were removed during the first phase of the operation.

The initiative is part of a broader effort across the country to free public spaces from unlawful development and precedes the “Urban Renaissance 2.0” programme, which aims to restore legality and foster community development.

Rama also unveiled new legal measures this week to strengthen territorial control, protect public areas, enforce building permits, and punish illegal construction.

TIRANA, Sept 7 /ATA/-By Maela Marini/ – Prime Minister Edi Rama urged builders to either pre-purchase or donate their illegal buildings, warning that “they won’t be able to block property by corrupting judges as they would seize operating as economic stakeholders.”

The government head stated “it is unacceptable that additional unauthorized floors thrive on top of high-rise buildings that wealthy people keep constructing on beaches, as well as right at centre of Tirana.”

The Premier said “this is the most heinous contrast to be created.”

“This requires immediate, merciless actions either against these rich people, or the police officers and various inspectors, who show their teeth to the citizens, while they bow to kiss the feet of the rich,” Rama said.

According to him, “the State Police should strongly engage and support an operation led by the National Inspectorate for the Protection of the Territory in collaboration of the National Cadastre Agency, and the Housing Entity in all the municipalities, starting with Tirana Municipality.”

He said that today’s decision of the Council of Ministers provides for demolition or confiscation in public interest of unauthorized residential buildings, business centres, hotels and any other illegally constructed building.

TIRANA, June 8 /ATA/- Deputy Minister of Interior Julian Hodaj stated today in a television interview that the action “Our Coast” for the demolition of illegal constructions in coastal tourist areas will continue throughout the coastline.

Asked why the action “Our Coast” for the demolition of illegal constructions started from both ends of the country Ksamil and Velipoja, Hodaj said that, “It is no coincidence that it started from both ends of the country. So it starts in two tourist areas that are highly frequented during the summer period and the action will continue from Ksamil and Velipoja, respectively towards the north and towards the south along the entire coastline, to be later moved to other tourist areas. There is enough information on which facilities should be demolished and here we have in mind two types of facilities, those that do not have any kind of construction permit and those that have violated construction permits”, said Hodaj.

Asked why this action started at the beginning of the tourist season, Hodaj said that, “Because most of the attempts to usurp public property to build on the beach are made exactly in this period; they are not done in advance. We have a majority of light constructions, i.e. those that are assembled and dismantled almost within a day. They are constructions that block a part of the public beach without right. Apart from usurping public property that should belong to all Albanians, they are also significantly distorting the market.”/p.s./

General Director of Co-ownership in the Municipality of Tirana Aurel Çuko and the Administrator of Unit 6 Adriatik Merko inspected the process of demolition of buildings severely damaged by the November 2019 earthquake in “Kombinat”, which have been declared uninhabitable and not safe by the Institute of Construction. This process is expected to be completed within 3 months.

“In total, there are 198 buildings, to which we have made in-depth expertise. 111 are to be demolished and only in “Kombinat” there are 67 buildings to be demolished. I believe that within 2-3 months we will complete the demolition process,” said Çuko.

On the other hand, he said that this process is proceeding with the good understanding of the local residents./p.s./
