TIRANA, March 1/ATA/ Deputy Minister of Infrastructure and Energy, Enkelejda Muça, stated on Wednesday that there is no decision for the demolition of houses built 50 years ago, but the government is drawing up a draft decision for the technical audit of all facilities that have been built over 50 years ago.

In a media statement alongside the director of the Construction Institute, Artan Shkreli, the deputy minister stated that this process will be carried out in the highest interest of the citizens of the Republic of Albania.

“This project is not intended to demolish old buildings, but to regulate the legal procedures for an audit of their physical condition and their physical resilience. It is about a completely legal process started after the 2019 earthquake,” she said.

The draft decision, the deputy minister pointed out, is still in the consultation phase.

Even the head of the Construction Institute assured that there will be no demolition of buildings, but assessment of their condition.

“The purpose of the audit is to assess the condition of the facilities. If the facility does not guarantee the lives of citizens, the state has the obligation to intervene and bring it up to the safety standards,” said Shkreli.
