TIRANA, Sept. 21 /ATA/ – President Bajram Begaj attended the final stage of the “Arber’s Shield 2026” exercise in Bizë area, where Albania’s Light Infantry Battalion Group was certified “Mission Capable” under NATO standards.

Speaking at the ceremony, Begaj said the certification demonstrated the progress, high level of training, discipline and professionalism of the Armed Forces, adding that the standard must be maintained.

He said military readiness was built every day through training and professionalism and stressed the need to strengthen defence capabilities amid security challenges including the war in Ukraine, tensions in the Middle East, hybrid threats, cyberattacks and disinformation.

“Peace is not maintained through passivity or declarations alone. It is defended through readiness, training, strong alliances and a well-equipped and prepared Armed Force,” Begaj said.

The president, who is also commander-in-chief of the Armed Forces, highlighted the importance of Albania’s partnerships with the United States and NATO, saying the Armed Forces were capable of contributing alongside allies wherever required.

Being certified “Mission Capable” was not merely a title attached to an exercise but demonstrated the real ability to deploy and operate effectively alongside allies whenever required, Begaj said.

He also highlighted investment in the defence industry, modernisation of military structures, development of capabilities and infrastructure, and national security.

The head of state praised NATO allies for their support and highlighted the strategic partnership with the United States, saying U.S. assistance had been continuous and decisive in strengthening Albania’s defence capabilities.

He also conveyed his gratitude to the New Jersey National Guard, represented at the ceremony by Brigadier General Yvonne L. Mays.

TIRANA, July 15 /ATA/ – Deputy Prime Minister Albana Koçiu said on Wednesday that a 13.2 million euro investment by defence manufacturer Guna Tactical, part of Albania’s first weapon manufacturing and military services company named KAYO, would help position Albania as a regional hub for the defence industry, as the country expands production capacity ahead of hosting the 2027 NATO Summit.

Speaking during a visit to the company’s new production facility, Koçiu said the investment, part of an agreement with MSSC Group, marked “a new strategic direction” for Albania as it expands its domestic defence capabilities.

She said Albania has increased defence spending to 2.6% of gross domestic product through the 2026 budget revision, in line with NATO commitments, and is seeking to attract investment and integrate into European defence supply chains.

According to Koçiu, the project will create around 1,200 jobs and has already secured contracts to supply uniforms to the Albanian Armed Forces, State Police and prison service for 2026-2028.

She added that investments by Guna Tactical, together with other defence projects and a partnership with Italian shipbuilder Fincantieri, would strengthen Albania’s defence manufacturing base and support its ambition to become a regional defence industry hub.
