Vengu said that the French counterpart was France’s first defence minister to visit Albania, calling it a significant boost in advancing security and defence cooperation between the two countries.

“The meeting takes a more special importance against the backdrop of the European Political Community summit today in Tirana, an initiative strongly supported by President Emmanuel Macron, aiming to expand the political and strategic dialogue in the face of threats and challenges to our continent,” Vengu said.

Vengu said that he and his French counterpart had also discussed a wide range of defence and security issues, as well as ways to further strengthen bilateral ties, training programs for Albanian servicemen, development of military and defence capabilities, human resources etc.

Defence Minister underlined that since the two countries signed the Strategic Partnership deal a few years ago, Albania and France see in a similar way the risks and challenges facing the world today, including solidarity and support for the Ukrainian people, as well as finding solutions to strengthen the European dimension of the alliance.
