The Special Prosecutor’s Office against Organized Crime and Corruption, SPAK, requested 1 year in prison, on the charge of concealing wealth. But, the jury of the Special Court of Appeal for Corruption and Organized Crime ruled 6 months in prison, which will be converted into 1 year of probation.

SPAK accuses Dedja of hiding some of his assets in the self-declaration form. Dedja is the first Judge to be punished by the Special Court after he failed to pass the vetting. The former chairman of the Constitutional Court passed in the first instance court, but was overturned in the Special Appellate College./p.s./

But, pursuant to Article 59, it is required suspension of execution of the sentence and two years on probation.

According to SPAK, Dedja does not justify two apartments and a garage with legal sources.

The former head of the Constitutional Court was dismissed from office by vetting in the second evaluation scale. In October 2021, the Special Court decided to return the criminal file in charge of Dedja to SPAK. The court assessed at that time that the investigation was not complete, that a new act of expertise should be carried out and questioning of several persons. And according to the court, some of the acts had become invalid.

Dedja, through his lawyer Baftjar Rusi, stuck by the request for dismissal of the charge or for completion of the investigation./k.s/p.s./

Dedja’s apartment in Golem was sequestrated by the Special Court of First Instance for Corruption and Organized Crime about 1 year ago. The former Head of the Constitutional Court was dismissed from office by the Vetting for non-declaration and concealment of assets.

Last month, Dedja was taken as a defendant by the Special Court of First Instance for Corruption and Organized Crime. Following SPAK investigations, it turned out that he did not declare and hide assets. The Special Court accepted the request to try Dedja after more than 2 years of investigation. Bashkim Dedja, is accused of committing the criminal offense of “Refusal to declare, non-declaration, concealment or false declaration of assets, private interests of elected persons and public servants or every other person who has a legal obligation to declare”, committed in the form of false declaration and concealment, provided by Article 257 / a / 2 of the Criminal Code.

The Special Court against Corruption and Organized Crime, on May 10, 2022, sent for trial the case against the former Head of the Constitutional Court Bashkim Dedja, who will be tried for concealment of property and false declaration. /j.p/p.s./
