Peter Beyer, Member of Bundestag and Chief Rapporteur for Albania in the Foreign Affairs Committee of the CDU / CSU Parliamentary Group in the German Bundestag, stated in Tirana that the time has come for decoupling of Albania from North Macedonia in the opening of accession negotiations and the holding of the first Intergovernmental Conference of the member states of the European Union.

“There is a slim chance that within the French Presidency of the European Council, which runs out later this month, Bulgaria will give up the veto on North Macedonia for the opening of accession negotiations. If Bulgaria does not back down, then time has come for Albania to decouple from North Macedonia. “Neither of the two countries should hold the other back,” Beyer said at a press conference held on Tuesday (07.06) at the end of his official visit to Tirana.
