TIRANA, Aug 6 /ATA/ The increasing flow of citizens entering and exiting the border points has resulted in the customs structures at these points raising the alert to control declaration of cash.

The Albanian Customs Administration says that all passengers entering or leaving our country are under a legal obligation to declare amounts in cash at Border Crossing Points.

From 2008 the law stipulates that all persons who enter the territory of Albania or leave it, are obliged to declare the amounts in cash, any kind of negotiable instrument of the holder, metals or precious stones, valuables and antiques , starting from the amount of 10 thousand euros or its equivalent in other currencies, the purpose of holding them, as well as to submit relevant supporting documents.

The declaration is made at the offices of the Customs Administration, at the Border Crossing Point, entry or exit.

Non-declaration, or false declaration results in penalty. In the event of a non-declaration or false declaration, in parallel with the imposition of a fine by the Customs Administration, the case is handled in accordance with the provisions of the Criminal Code and the Code of Criminal Procedure.

For amounts from 10 000 – 19 999 euros or their equivalent in other foreign currencies, the fine is in the amount of 20 thousand ALL for the first time, 10% of the undeclared value for the second time, and 30% of undeclared value for other cases.

For amounts from 20,000 – 49,999 euros or their equivalent in other foreign currencies, the fine is in the amount of 40,000 ALL for the first time, 20% of the undeclared value for the second time, as well as 40% of the undeclared value for other cases.
