TIRANA, June 27 /ATA/ Crowds of people gathered in Skanderbeg Square this Saturday afternoon and marched toward the Prime Minister’s office on Martyrs of the Nation Boulevard. Demonstrators reiterated their calls for Prime Minister Edi Rama’s resignation, the removal of the old political establishment, electoral reform, and the repeal of the protected areas law amendments.

Entering its 28th consecutive day, the protest against the planned tourist investment in Zvërnec commenced with a minute of silence honoring the 82nd anniversary of the Cham genocide. Following the national anthem and the reading of their core demands, demonstrators marched to the Prime Minister’s Office, where organizers and citizens addressed the crowd with calls for a “New Albania.”

“Our peaceful, historic resistance has made those in power deeply uncomfortable. Our international allies are with us, every step of the way. We demand the repeal of this destructive law. To our European friends, the message is clear: when you allow the ecosystems of Albania to be destroyed, you violate the environment of the EU as well,” said one of the protesters.

Urging for a peaceful civic revolution, a protester called on SPAK to step in and help facilitate this transition. The demonstrators are presenting five non-negotiable demands: the resignation of the prime minister, the repeal of the strategic investors framework, the abolition of the Mountain Package, and the cancellation of recent amendments to the laws on protected areas and cultural heritage. /p.s./
