Minister of Tourism, Culture and Sports Blendi Gonxhja announced today that this edition’s program includes 17 performances across nine different locations, fostering artistic collaboration and cultural dialogue.

A key figure in this edition is the choreographer of Albanian descent Angjelin Preljocaj, who will present his latest work, “Soulevement,” alongside international troupes.

Opera and Ballet house and Folk Ensemble will also play a significant role in the festival, hosting six artistic evenings and presenting a co-production with Kosovo Ballet.

The festival celebrates a wide array of dance styles—from classical to urban—merging movement with music, theater, projections, and puppetry. Performances will take place citywide on stages and in public spaces, featuring a special program dedicated to children.

The artists performed under hip-hop music with rhythm, power and improvisation, transmitting a contemporary form of the art. The show was realized in the framework of the International Dance Festival of Tirana (IDFT) and was specially conceived for the GOCAT Gallery. The performance brought together choreographer Sandrine Lescourant and musician Abraham Diallo, in a creation where dance, spoken word and live music conveyed a direct relationship with the visual arts.

In this presentation, Lescourant and Diallo were accompanied by one of the Albanian participants of their ten-day workshop and public performance “Blossom”, thus connecting their work to the city and giving it a tangible local presence.

“The Tropoja Dance is part of the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity at UNESCO”, wrote the head of government.

The representative of the group of Albanian artists Ardit Facja told the Italian media that they felt honored to represent Albania in this event, where they, as a young group, also went to have fun.

The audience as well as the media of neighboring countries did not remain indifferent when they saw the famous dance of Rrajca. The Prrenjas ensemble performed several dances, but Rrajca’s dance was the one that was evaluated by the jury.

The organizers of this festival said that activities like these convey to the young people messages that we cannot move forward without the culture and traditions that are our roots.

The concert by the Ensemble of Songs and Dances on the cobblestone alleys of Gjirokaster, an UNESCO World Heritage site, featured best Albanian folk and dance traditions.

A large number of visitors to the stone city joined the Ensemble’s performance by singing and dancing with the artists.

This festival will promote the diversity and innovation of contemporary dance and promote cultural exchange and artistic growth in the Balkan region. For students and young dancers from Albania and the Western Balkans region, there will be free dance courses led by choreographers from international partner companies.

Also, the festival presents a parallel program of art events, including exhibitions and a workshop dedicated to children.
