TIRANA, Oct 4 /ATA/ – By I.Vata/- The draft law for Albania’s adherence to the second additional protocol to the Convention for Cybercrime on Enhanced Cooperation and Disclosure of Electronic Evidence was discussed Tuesday in the Committee for Foreign Policy

Deputy Minister of Justice, Adea Pirdeni, present at the parliamentary committee, said that the parent convention has been ratified by Albania since 2002.

According to her, the second additional protocol is intended to respond to the current challenges that come as a result of the use of information technology.

The Deputy Minister emphasized that this protocol is adapted to the current risks arising from cybercrime as a serious threat to the functioning of democracy and the rule of law.

“At the core of this protocol lies protection of individuals and society against digital crimes through effective criminal investigations. It serves the rapid exchange of evidence secured in a lawful manner as part of investigation of cybercrime by ramping up cooperation between states and taking into account the regard for the highest standards of protection of personal data in accordance with national and international obligations of each country,” explained Pirdeni.

In the end, the Foreign Policy Committee approves the Convention on Cybercrime, approves in principle the draft law for Albania’s adherence to the second additional protocol of the Convention for Cybercrime on Enhanced Cooperation and Disclosure of Electronic Evidence.
