Tirana, June 5 /ATA/ Minister of Finance, Petrit Malaj, presented to Parliament the draft law for ratification of agreement between Albania and the European Union concerning Albania’s participation in the “Customs” Program.

Minister Malaj stated that the agreement aims to strengthen cooperation among the customs authorities of the participating countries, facilitate international trade, and ensure uniform implementation of customs legislation.

Albania has been part of this program since 2013 and has benefited significantly through trainings, exchange of experiences, and the modernization of its customs administration.
The new agreement, Malaj emphasized, provides for a financial contribution of approximately 164,000 euros until 2027, which is already accounted for in the budget of the Customs Administration.

“This draft law not only offers benefits in strengthening capacities, including the advancement of information technology systems and tackling the shared challenges such as anti-smuggling efforts, customs fraud, and other trade-related violations, but also involves a prudent and justified financial commitment. Albania’s total financial contribution, projected through the end of 2027, amounts to €164,385, comprising €160,584 allocated as an operational contribution to cover participation costs in program activities, and €3,801 as a participation fee, representing a designated proportion of the operational budget,” stated Malaj.
According to him, this agreement supports Albania’s efforts to meet EU standards and modernize public administration, thereby accelerating the country’s European integration. /j.p/sm/
