TIRANA, Oct 8 /ATA/ – Tropical fruits, such as kiwi, wolf berries or avocado, which were introduced to our country in the last 2 decades, are now being successfully cultivated by Albanian farmers in certain parts across the country.

Farmers are showing increased interest in the cultivation of exotic fruits, seizing this opportunity to start exporting exotic fruits that were once 100% imported products.

The experience that certain farmers have amassed while working and living for several years abroad is now being used back home and fruits like kiwi is now being successfully cultivated in Durrës, Fier, Vlorë, Vau Dejës, Pogradec, Librazhd and Belsh.

Meanwhile, farmers in Vlora and Tirana, passionate about avocados, have started cultivating this highly-sought tropical fruit recently by the Albanian consumer.

Agricultural experts say that planting avocado trees is attracting the interest of farmers, because the avocado plant requires hot and humid climates.

There are currently three experimental plots planted with avocados in the area of Vlora, but also in Tirana.

They have decided to grow it for personal use, showing that this fruit can grow quite well in Albania, especially in protected areas.

TIRANA, August 9 /ATA/ Prime Minister Edi Rama shared today in the social media photos showing the cultivated lands in Gjorica of Bulqiza.

“Cultivated lands in Gjorica of Bulqiza”, Rama wrote in a post on social media.

In Albania, the area of cultivated land on a national scale has doubled.

During the presentation of the 2022 budget for agriculture, Rama said that, “From the 120 thousand ha that was in 2013, today we have 255 thousand ha of cultivated land in Albania. So, we have worked double the area of land of Albania because we have invested strongly rehabilitating the irrigation and drainage canals”.

Rama also said that agricultural exports have increased to 400 million USD.

“The increase in exports to 400 million USD is a meaningful example of the development of the agricultural sector”, said Rama, while adding that, “We target to go to 1 billion combined exports in agriculture and fishing”.

The support schemes given by the government are aimed at increasing the quality of agricultural products, seeds and seedlings, but also at increasing collection points, where the products produced by farmers have more opportunities to be sent to other international markets./r.e/p.s./
