At a media briefing, Minister Çuçi said that “I stand here today at an unusual hour, because as you are informed, this morning in Lezha Island, the State Police officer, Saimir Hoxha, has fallen in the line of duty. Lieutenant Commander Saimir Hoxha was part of the territory control group responsible for intercepting and destroying the narcotics. The perpetrator, Aldi Rama, a young man previously convicted for his involvement in narcotics trafficking, was caught after several hours in pursuit by special police forces.

“I avail myself of this opportunity to express once again my deepest condolences to the family of the deceased, his friends and colleagues,” said Çuçi.

Minister Çuçi said that, “Central Commission for the “Martyr of the Nation ” status has started the procedures for declaring officer Saimir Hoxha” Martyr of the Nation, ” guaranteeing all the attention and support for his family as set out in a special law.”

On this occasion, Çuçi added that he strongly encourages the entire body of the State Police and expressed his unceasing support and on behalf of the Albanian government to continue the determined daily battle with crime, whatever it may be.

“I express my veneration for the officer fallen in the line of duty, with the promise that we will not stop for a moment to bring to justice anyone who dares to raise the hand of crime against the Police. Tragedies like this really cause pain and outrage in the heart of every Albanian, but they do not discourage us in the fight against illegitimacy. Neither me as Minister of Interior nor the State Police,” Çuçi said.
