TIRANA, April 30 /ATA/ – A total of 760 international visitors arrived in cruise and sailing ships at Saranda Port in April alone, as the southern Albanian port is poised to register a strong boost in its cruise ship tourism this year.

Alket Qendro, Director of Saranda Port, told Albanian Telegraphic Agency on Saturday that the international tourist arrivals in the coastal city are steadily growing after further relaxation of COVID-19 rules.

“Lifting the pandemic restrictions and gradual return to normalcy is bringing more and more foreign tourists to our country and the city of Saranda at the start of this summer tourist season,” Qendro said.

According to him, Saranda is expected to experience a successful tourist season this year.

The 213-m long and 30-me wide Silver Moon cruise ship brought to the southernmost Albanian city along the Riviera some 387 tourists mainly from the United States of America, France, and England.

The Butrint archaeological park, a UNESCO World heritage site, Ksamil, Blue Eye spring, the Lekursi Castle, Mesopotam, and Gjirokaster Castle were the main attraction for tourists visiting Saranda.

Known as the gem of Albanian Riviera, the southernmost Albanian district of Saranda is a top destination in Albania during summer, offering tourists a combination of rocky and sandy beaches as well as cultural heritage attractions such as the Butrint UNESCO World Heritage site and the Blue Eye spring.

Saranda, known for its beautiful pure Ionian waters, has been earlier named as one of cheapest beach destinations in Europe.
