TIRANA, June 13 /ATA/ At the border point of Muriqani in Shkodra, which serves as the gateway for thousands of visitors, there has begun the requalification process so that to ensure the highest standards of hospitality and information for tourist Albania.

Minister of Tourism and Environment Mirela Kumbaro, Minister of State for Relations with the Parliament Elisa Spiropali and General Director of the Customs Genti Gazheli inspected today this border point, where the influx of foreigners entering Albania has increased by 30% compared with last year.

Kumbaro informed that from January until now the number of foreign visitors to Albania has increased by 60%.

She said that work has begun on the requalification of the border point in Muriqan.

“In cooperation with the customs, we have started working with all border points to prepare the hospitality of all tourists. Muriqani is one of the most important gateways we have for the entry of tourists coming from Croatia, Montenegro or Kosovo.

Kumbaro emphasized that it is a work that has been started for weeks at all the entry gates of the country.

“The work consists of the sanitation and review of all the servants and up to the retraining projects. We still have work to do as we will clear all the signs that have been put up by various private entities. We want everyone leaving or coming to have the good feeling of a beautiful postcard between the scenery and the hospitality services. A dignified business card of Albanian tourism”, she said.

Kumbaro informed that there is cooperation underway with the Albanian Road Authority and all service kiosks will be requalified, too.

Spiropali emphasized that Muriqani is the gateway to Albania and this intervention was necessary.

For his part, Gazheli informed that 12 thousand tourists and passengers crossed the Albanian border at the common border point with Montenegro yesterday in 24 hours time.

“During the peak, there are 22-24 thousand passengers per day. Albania is on the global tourism maps,” he said./r.e/p.s./
