TIRANA, Sept 1 /ATA/ More and more farmers are increasing the area of cropland, harvesting from it the best that nature offers, fresh fruits and vegetables not only to meet the needs of the local market but also to export to European markets and further.

“Albania is generously endowed with a wonderful climate and with hardworking farmers, who work every day to ensure excellent harvests ready for the tables of consumers.”

This is how the Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Frida Krifca, described the reality of agriculture in our country, as she shared today a video showing aspects from agriculture such as different agricultural products and croplands.

Agriculture has pursued the trend of increasing exports even during the month of June this year, climbing to the second place of the good group with the highest contribution to the national economy.

According to INSTAT data, this group was the only one that continued the strong expansion of exports, with an increase of 42.6%, ranking for the first time this month (June) the second largest in the country, after textiles and footwear with 18.8% of the total.
The increase in agricultural exports is attributed to efficient support policies that have directly benefited farmers and have encouraged local production, increased quality and standards and brought about a new development of the food chain, through contemporary investments in collection points.

The sector falls into the second group with the largest increase in exports, 20.7%, even for the first 6 months of this year, according to INSTAT statistics.

Referring to official data, this group remains the fourth largest with 13% of the total, from 10% in the same period a year ago, as the growth trend for “agricultural produce, food, beverages and tobacco” has not stopped since the beginning of the year, when in May the sector bounced back, expanding by 24.6%.
