TIRANA, April 7 /ATA/ Citizens have spoken up in favor of tougher sentence for repeat perpetrators of serious crimes against persons.

The Director of the Agency for Dialogue and Co-Governance, Eridana Cano, rolled out on Thursday the results of the National Consultation survey, containing 12 questions in total with three alternative answers for citizens, which was conducted from January 1 to March 31, 2022.

The second question on this form was: “There are people who say that Albania should have tougher sentence for repeat perpetrators who committing serious crimes against persons, doubling the serving time and revoking the right to plea bargaining for perpetrators of domestic violence and crimes against children. Others say the sentences in force are enough for repeat offenders and perpetrators of domestic violence. What is your opinion?”

Citizens have had three choices: “Albania should toughen up the sentences for these perpetrators; We do not need such measures; I do not know how to judge on this issue. ”

“431 881 citizens answered positively or 81% of them, 73 233 or 13% answered negatively and I do not know 26 111 citizens or 6% of them”, said Cano.

“431 881 citizens answered positively or 81% of them, 73 233 or 13% answered negatively and I do not know 26 111 citizens or 6% of them”, said Cano.
The question is also elaborated, saying that “this measure guarantees that repeat perpetrators of serious crimes against the person receive even harsher punishments than those provided by applicable law, while persons who commit domestic violence and crimes against children do not have the right to have their sentence commuted due to plea bargaining. ”
