TIRANA, Nov 15 /ATA/ Prime Minister Edi Rama, during the extended assembly of the Socialist Party in Dibra, said that “January 21” is one of those crimes that will never go unpunished.

According to him, the decision handed down on Tuesday by the European Court of Human Rights in Strasbourg on the “January 21” case proved that the judicial process in Albania was a farce.

Rama also focused on the reactions of the opposition MPs, stressing that “it is a situation where the reasons that are said for this new escalation of stupidity are not the ones that are known.”

“You saw yesterday, I believe, you heard that the European Court of Human Rights in Strasbourg, which is the European highest court of all European countries for human rights. And the decisions of that court are guidelines for Europe, the rule of law in Europe and are binding for every European country. The Human Rights Court handed down the decision yesterday, overturning the entire ridiculous process conducted in Albania for ‘January 21,'” Rama underlined.

According to him, “it underlined what is the most fundamental in adjudicating that event and which should have been handled without question, as the Human Rights Court said, in every democratic and European country where justice is independent and where the executive and the ruling majority that does not interfere with justice, the chain of command should have been judged”, said Rama.

“Countless of bullets were fired at the protesters who did not pose any risk to anyone. And therefore the question is how come the state weapons killed citizens of this state. And how come, after the citizens of this country were gunned down with the weapons of the state, as a result of opening fire commanded by the top of the chain, this country has not seen any kind of fair justice delivered, but only a second re-murder, such an humiliation for the families who lost their people. This decision of the Court of Human Rights is the most concrete embodiment of the maxim that justice is delayed, but truth shall prevail,” the Prime Minister said.

“I said years ago, ‘January 21’ is one of those crimes for which justice may take longer than delayed justice, but it is one of those crimes that never goes unpunished, as it is a state crime. It is a crime committed by order of the government, direct and illegitimate order,” said Rama.
