TIRANA, September 1/ATA/ The British Week of Culture in Tirana started this evening with a cricket match, which opens the second season of the International Culture Weeks.

The Albanian and British cricket teams met for a friendly in “Skënderbej” square, bringing to the public the game that is very dear to the British, but not so known to the Albanians.

Many citizens stopped by to watch the game and learn about its rules, while the teams tried their best.

The ambassador of Great Britain in Tirana Alastair King-Smith said in an interview earlier that cricket may not be very popular in Albania, but in Britain it is played just like in the world. “Albania plays a lot of football and knows it well, so we thought to present cricket as well”, he said.

British Culture Week brings to the Albanian public a series of activities that celebrate British culture, art, music and sport, in the 100th anniversary of relations between the United Kingdom and Albania.

The first four countries to reopen the Cultural Weeks season will be: Great Britain (September 1 to 11), Sweden (September 12-18), Egypt (September 19-25) and China (September 26-October 2).

During September and on, there will be concerts with classical and modern Egyptian music, Egyptian folk performances, Chinese culture festival, Taiji performance, Chinese food and tea ceremony, traditional cricket game, ABBA Tribute concert, as well as and the long-awaited concert of the internationally known Albanian singer Rita Ora.

During the summer months, the project had a hiatus. The last organized week was that of Turkish culture, at the end of which there was a concert by the virtuoso violinist of Albanian origin Elvin Hoxha Ganiyev./p.s./
