Van Cleve delivered a speech at the panel as part of the VIII Corridor Ministerial, which took place today in Tirana.
He emphasized the strategic connectivity, regional economic growth, and the economic potential of Corridor VIII.
“Europe needs strategic defense projects. The worst approach is to focus solely on individual peace; instead, we must adopt a broader perspective,” he stated.

Speaking about the Porto Romano project, Van Cleve emphasized that it is located in a highly strategic area for strategic trade.

“The route from Porto Romano to other countries is shorter and more efficient than passing through Thessaloniki or Athens. Additionally, with Athens under Chinese influence, this makes Porto Romano strategically important both geopolitically and geographically,” he added.
“Let us unite to address the existing gaps and ensure the implementation of this strategic corridor through the Balkans. Certain regions in Eastern and Southern Europe warrant support due to their critical importance. The United States stands ready to serve as a reliable partner throughout this process,” he stated.
