TIRANA, May  22 /ATA/ Deputy Parliament Speaker, Agron Gjekmarkaj, was received on Monday in a meeting by the Mayor of Corfu, Merope Hydraiou.

Gjekmarkaj said that Corfu is a neighboring town and friend of Albania, the root and symbol of European civilization.

“The town is home to thousands of Albanian emigrants who have been successfully integrated in the economy and life of the island,” he added.

Gjekmarkaj and Mayor Hydraiou discussed the promotion of comprehensive cross-border cooperation between Corfu and Albanian cities.

Another topic under discussion was the cooperation between governments and state institutions and private enterprises, to transform emigration into a source of development for the sending and hosting countries and as an instrument for development, welfare, understanding and friendship between the peoples of the two countries.
