TIRANA, Sept 15 /ATA/ Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Andis Salla announced the initial outcomes of the initiative to establish Agricultural Cooperation Societies based on each region’s priority products. Since the process began in March, 33 societies have been set up in 21 municipalities, engaging 455 farmers, while work is ongoing in another 12 municipalities.

According to Salla, the cooperation model aims to tackle one of farmers’ main challenges — high costs and limited bargaining power when facing the market individually. He explained that while land, farms and production remain in the hands of each farmer, by joining forces they can reduce expenses, share machinery, invest collectively in collection and processing, and strengthen their negotiating position in the marketplace.

To promote this model, under the National Scheme 2026, Agricultural Cooperation Societies have been granted priority status and access to financing of up to 100%, with the aim of encouraging investment and increasing farmers’ incomes.

The initiative is being implemented in cooperation with municipalities, which are supporting Agricultural Cooperation Societies with assets, infrastructure and services. Particular attention is being given to young people and women in rural areas who wish to invest and contribute to the development of the agricultural sector.

“This is the model we are building in every municipality, to give greater value to farmers’ work and to expand opportunities for ‘Made in Albania’ production in both domestic and European markets,” Minister Andis Salla stated.
