TIRANA, June 25 /ATA/ In the run-up to the forthcoming G7 Summit in Schloss Elmau, governments, international and regional organizations, multilateral development banks, non-governmental organizations gathered on Saturday in Berlin to unite for global food security while appreciating the progress made in this regard.

Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Frida Krifca, said during her speech at the conference that this crisis highlight the importance of building resilient and sustainable food systems in our countries, in cooperation with each other, drawing on the best techniques that are already in place.

“By working together, with the support of developed countries, we can ensure that our people have access to a resilient and sustainable food supply that minimizes waste and negative impact on environment. This system is of service at a time when we can no longer rely on the global supply chains that operated in pre-Covid period, and before anyone could think a new war in Europe would break out,” Krifca said.

The Minister stressed during the conference the importance of environmental sustainability of agriculture and food processing system, for which she expressed the commitment of Albania in this regard to a sustainable transition to green practices for agricultural production, thus aligning with the Green Agenda for the Western Balkans and the EU Green Agenda.

“Albania is committed to expanding the use of natural agricultural methods in a bid to reach the European target of 25% of agricultural land cultivated with environmentally friendly methods. The use of indigenous breeds, the revitalization of conventional agricultural systems such as the planting of olive trees, the increase of area certified as organic farming, or the sustainable use of pastures are some of the instruments that will pave the way for the advancement of agriculture and rural development in Albania, ” underlined Krifca.

At the conference, the parties said that this multidimensional crisis requires a common and effective global response that combines diplomacy, humanitarian aid, development cooperation as well as agricultural and food policies.

Participants signaled their willingness to take responsibility and continue to work closely together to achieve a common goal.
