Berisha stated that the CDI adopted a special resolution on Albania, highlighting the democratic backsliding, state capture, and the infiltration of organized crime into state institutions.

During the press conference, Berisha read out the key sections of the document, which, according to him, raises serious concerns regarding the state of democracy and the rule of law in the country.

“I expressed deep concern over the findings of the OSCE/ODIHR final report, which confirms the systemic merging of state and party power, the widespread misuse of public resources, and an environment of selective justice that hindered fair competition. He called on the European Union, its member states, and democratic partners to ensure that Albania’s accession process remains strictly merit-based, linked to verifiable progress in the rule of law, electoral integrity, and the fight against corruption,’ Berisha stated.

During the conference, Berisha was asked by journalists about the statement of Commissioner Kos regarding the May 11 elections, which she described as ‘free and fair.’”

Berisha condemned Marta Kos’s statement on the elections, describing it as influenced by propaganda and in violation of international and national law. He welcomed the European Commission’s correct response and reaffirmed the Democratic Party’s full commitment to Albania’s EU integration, while noting that the country currently does not meet the necessary accession criteria.”
He added that ‘similar, though not identical to the views of Ms Kos, are the positions of Ambassador Gonzato, who is a conveyor of Edi Rama’s paid propaganda and of unrestrained disinformation.

On this matter, I have informed you that this individual, in furthering Edi Rama’s propaganda, has told Members of the European Parliament that the Chairman of the Democratic Party is not pro-Western, asserting that his agenda leans toward MAGA rather than pro-European Union integration. This is a fabrication, a falsehood, which I have condemned previously and condemn once again. The Democratic Party has always been, and remains, fully committed to the integration process. All of Albania’s major integration achievements are the work of this party,” the Democratic Party leader stressed.
