TIRANA, Oct 3 /ATA/ – Around 40 prominent artists from around the world will come together at the first edition of the Durrës International Biennale of Contemporary Art (DIBoCA) due to begin on October 5 in the Albanian coastal city.

The international event will turn the ancient city into central stage of the visual arts.

The Minister of Economy, Culture and Innovation, Blendi Gonxhja, said that the Biennale will feature 17 pavilions, “with the participating artists set to throw light on the artificial intelligence and hybrid future, in an approach that not only stimulates the imagination of the contemporary creative artist, but also highlights the algorithm of the very existence of the human being on the edge between the rational and the irrational, the real and the surreal.”

The event’s pavilions will be staged at some of the most iconic institutions in the city of Durres, including several cultural heritage sites, namely the Roman Amphitheatre, Venetian Tower, the Byzantine Forum and Medieval Hammam.

This exhibition has the algorithm of its development every two years (biennale) and seeks to bring together the latest trends, aesthetic and stylistic approaches of contemporary international art, transforming the city of Durrës once every two years, into the most important and meaningful, in terms of visual art anywhere else. This biennial international exhibition of contemporary art is supported by the Municipality of Durrës, as a way to focus the creative attention of the most prominent artists of contemporary art, local and foreign, in the most ancient city of Albania.
